Yuichiro Hikari is a major antagonist in Where Light Shines, Shadows Fall. He is an accomplished NetNavi scientist, and the father of Lan Hikari^SF and MegaMan.EXE^SF. Currently, he works as second-in-command of Nebula.

He has no memories of his life prior to the activation of SoulNet, save for dreams of his family. This same event corrupted his soul and warped him into someone unrecognizable.

Appearance

Yuichiro is 5'11" (180 cm) tall. He has short brown hair with long fringe that curls outward. His eyes are brown, bloodshot and dead-looking, with heavy eyebags underneath. Covering them are square-rimmed glasses. He has a bit of stubble, and generally looks unkempt. His normal attire consists of khakis and a dull blue sweater atop a button-up shirt. On top he wears a lab coat when working, or a black jacket otherwise. He also wears black gloves. Early on, he would wear his old SciLab uniform.

Personality

Yuichiro is cold, rude and belligerent, with a constant foul attitude. By default he shows little emotion, but is quick to anger or irritation. Due to the influence of SoulNet on his soul, he is incapable of feeling positive emotions, even when exiting its direct sphere on influence.

He shows a singleminded interest in science, claiming that nothing else matters to him, condemning his family in particular. When not working on his duties for Nebula, he will be pursuing a number of research projects, often neglecting his own sleep in the process. He pays no regard to the ethics of said projects, and may be intentionally cruel, going as far as to kidnap and torture others for the sake of science. The favorite of his projects is MegaMan^SF.

History

A New Life

The first clear memory Yuichiro has is a few hours after the activation of SoulNet, when Dr. Regal^SF offered him a position in Nebula. He accepted, in exchange for full access of MegaMan.EXE^SF. It took no time for him to adjust to his new life, aware of the old one only through secondhand information, and he soon convinced himself that SoulNet was a net positive on his life.

He did a number of jobs around Nebula, spending his free time developing Double Souls for MegaMan. The only time he left Nebula HQ was on a trip to Creamland to secure the MagnoMetal research they were performing there. Seeing them as a hindrance, he ordered the deaths of the researchers. A surprise power outage trapped him in an elevator with Lan Hikari^SF. When they escaped, he took Lan hostage in exchange for the research materials, slitting his eyelid in the process.

On the way home, he had a dream about his old life, featuring his happy family. He shrugged it off, but these dreams continued to haunt him going forward.

Entering the Chatroom

Yuichiro discovered the Chatroom soon afterward, right as it underwent its resurgence. Curious about the new worlds it linked together and how it operated, he became an active participant, bothering others with his cruel behavior and lack of morals. He went as far as to offer his services to Marcatto Agaki, who wanted Laika Biryukov^KQ assassinated. His attempt was foiled by Firebird. He kept his identity a secret, up until an angered Guardian revealed it to everyone.

In this chatroom he met Dr. Regal^KQ, and the two immediately bonded, despite warnings of caution from the other chatroom members.
